From the steamy shores of a Brazil, through the Australian Desert and landing on the land of the Long White Cloud. Rhubarb Rouge is the alter ego of performance artist Henrique Beirao.
Rhubarb came to life in 2007. Lady Trenyce needed someone to perform on a friday night and Henrique volunteered. There, a cacophony of colours, and style was born on stage.
Rhubarb quickly became a fix in the Wellington and New Zealand Drag Scene performing all around the country. In 2008 Rhubarb Rouge was crowned Miss Drag Wellington.
Rhubarb also starred in her own biographical theatre show 'Confessions of a Drag Queen' which premiered at BATS Theatre in 2009. The show went on to sell out in Auckland's Basement Theatre, a return season at BATS and also in Melbourne and at the prestigious Sydney Opera House.

Rhubarb has worked with the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival, having her shows being part of it and also hosting the Mardi Gras Fair Day 3 years in a row.
Rhubarb's second theatre show was a famous New Zealand classic play 'Lashings of Whipped Cream - A Session with a teenage Dominatrix' written by Fiona Samuels and directed by Geoff Pinfield. Rhubarb toured with the show to Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland & Wellington. The show received great reviews :
"Ecstatically fun and provocatively engaging".
"The convincing appearance was met equally by her brilliant performance complemented by direction from Geoff Pinfield.. Rouge interpreted the script’s delicate mix of funny, eye-opening, and moving imagery perfectly."
She won Outstanding Male Performer for this show performing as part of the Palmy Fringe Festival.
Rhubarb is also the host and producer of What a Drag! which started as an exhibition about the history of Drag in Melbourne and developed into a major fundraiser drag event that has been running for the last 5 years.
